Treatments

Endovascular Laser Treatment (EVLT)

EVLT is a minimally invasive technique using laser energy to seal incompetent veins. After local anesthesia is applied, ultrasound guidance is utilized to obtain access into the incompetent vein, usually above the knee. The thin laser fiber is positioned in the vein and laser energy is used to seal the vein closed. The procedure takes less than an hour with minimal pain or recovery. Normal activities can be resumed immediately after the procedure and strenuous activities such as going to the gym can be resumed after 5-7 days.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is effective in the treatment of spider veins, or telangiectasias, and small varicose veins. It involves the placement of a very fine needle directly into the spider or varicose veins and injection of a solution which immediately closes the veins. It is often used after laser therapy to treat any remaining spider or small varicose veins.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Some varicose veins are too large or respond poorly to sclerotherapy. Phlebectomy is another treatment for these varicose veins. This involves the application of a local anesthetic followed by removal of veins with a special set of tools through a tiny incision.
